Dive into the Our Ocean Podcast

Dive into the Our Ocean Podcast

We are very excited to introduce you to the Our Ocean Podcast. At Seaful, we are passionate about deepening ocean insight and empowering ocean citizenship for everyone. The podcast has provided us with a new way to have enlightening and inspiring conversations – and to share them with all of you.

As a charity, our aim is to help as many people as possible to develop ocean connections. We know that our in-person projects can only reach so far. With the Our Ocean Podcast, we hope to bring beautiful stories and fascinating conversations about our oceans and how we can protect them to even more people.

Going into depth

What we love about the medium of podcasting is the opportunity it provides to have more nuanced, detailed and story-based conversations. We truly hope that the stories and information our guests share each week can inspire change.

In this first season, we’re talking to people with a deep connection to our oceans, particularly in Scotland where the podcast’s host Cal Major is based.

“I’m passionate about sharing the ocean’s most pressing and beautiful stories” – Cal Major

We’re focusing in particular on Scotland’s seabeds and on the work of the Our Seas Coalition, of which Seaful is a proud member.

Some of our guests spend time immersed in the sea. Others are connected through their work conserving habitats and species both under and above the water. All of them share a passion: our ocean and coastal regions.

We are going deep into topics as diverse as native oysters, guillemot jumplings, whale entanglement, sustainable fishing and much more. Each episode will introduce you to a different aspect of ocean life and in the process highlight the many different ways in which we are all connected to the sea.

It’s also important that we build a community of Ocean Citizens, so we’ll be sharing a call to action in each episode, along with links to relevant organisations and information to help you get involved with protecting our Blue Spaces and learning more about becoming ocean advocates.

Supporting our podcasting journey

We can’t introduce the Our Ocean Podcast without thanking a few organisations for their support. Without them, this series would not have been possible to produce. The Storytelling Grant from Ocean Culture Life has been particularly impactful. This funding has enabled us to get the podcast off the ground with our first series about Scotland’s seabed.

Sea Changers, meanwhile, awarded us their Scottish Learning Fund grant, which was game changing for our podcasting abilities. This gave us the opportunity to work with Adventurous Audio, who provided podcast specific training for us and gave us the confidence to shape our stories for audio, and get outside to a range of coastal locations to start recording.

As the podcast is such a new venture for us, it has been truly transformational to receive training that not only provided us with the skills, but also the confidence and know-how to start our podcast and to launch it into the world for you to listen to!

So, we invite you to dive into the Our Ocean Podcast with us. It’s a place where you can listen to your weekly dose of Vitamin Sea through beautiful ocean soundscapes, and start to build and develop your own ocean connections as part of a community of dedicated, passionate Ocean Citizens.
