Midcounties Co-op selects Seaful as charity partner for 2021

Here at Seaful, we are incredibly grateful for the support of the Midcounties Co-operative.

Seaful founder, Cal Major, is proud to be the Environmental Ambassador for the Midcounties Co-op, and has worked with the company for several years, both within the company’s own environmental commitments, and in engaging their customers, communities and young people through outreach.

What’s so special about a Co-op? Well, it’s a completely different way of working to a PLC. A co-operative, as the name suggests, works in partnership with its local communities, with the main aim to benefit these communities rather than profits being directed to shareholders. It’s a powerful way of creating stronger, more resilient, well connected and well served communities, and Cal has been blown away by the force for good the Midcounties Co-operative aims to be.

Cal has seen first hand the impact of the Midcounties Co-op’s values. Through the One Change campaign, the Midcounties Co-op has been tackling single-use plastic both within its own operations, and empowering members of the community to take action. The Midcounties Co-op has strong commitments to reducing carbon emissions, including through its energy partner which provides renewable and community energy schemes. The company also places a large focus on positive mental health of its colleagues and members, with resources, outreach and communications nurturing a supportive culture.

We are over the moon to have been chosen as one of the Midcounties Co-operative’s charity partners for 2021. The kind donation from the company has already helped enormously in getting Seaful off the ground; the charity set up has been a long and fairly complicated process which has been made all the easier by their support and belief in our mission.

We are really excited about our ongoing partnership, and bringing our projects to the Midcounties area. Seaful aims to engage those who don’t already feel a connection to the ocean, and we particularly want to demonstrate how we are all connected to blue spaces, regardless of how far in land we may live. We are looking forward to reaching out to the Midcounties partner schools with our educational and inspiring Vitamin Sea TV series, and developing connections within the community for our Vitamin Sea Project activities, starting with Chelmarsh reservoir in Shropshire.

We are also very grateful for the opportunity to reach Midcounties colleagues through our activities – the mid counties sit amongst hundreds of miles of waterways, and helping the community reconnect to these for the mental health benefits it brings, and empowering communities to protect their local blue spaces, is a passion we share with the Midcounties Co-op. We are also working with the Midcounties on their communications to colleagues around Mental Health Awareness week 2021, creating a video series about how to connect with nature whilst walking.

We are truly grateful for the Midcouties Co-op’s support, and are excited for our ongoing partnership. If you live within the area served by the Midcounties Co-op and would like to collaborate on a project, please do Get In Touch!
