Announcing the Ocean Citizen Award 2025 Recipients

At Seaful we are proud to announce the two young people selected for the 2025 Ocean Citizen Award.

The Ocean Citizen award is a new initiative created to support and uplift emerging voices in ocean advocacy.

Thanks to the generosity of Felix Appelbe, founder of Ocean Ambassadors, for partnering with us, each recipient will receive financial and practical support to help them deepen their connection to the ocean through storytelling, conservation, or community engagement.

This award is all about enabling transformation, both for the individuals and the ocean. It’s intended to open doors, spark ideas, and inspire action.

We were looking for people for whom this award could be transformational, and we found two incredible individuals.

Arwen Horsburgh and Megan Hamill.

Arwen Horsburgh
This award is a dream come true for me as it will allow me to work with one of the most incredible animals in the world and I am extremely grateful. It will also set me up with some amazing people who will advise, support and guide me in becoming the best ocean citizen I can. – Arwen Horsburgh, April 2025

Megan Hamill
I’m beyond grateful to be a recipient of the Seaful Ocean Citizen Award. This recognition is a powerful affirmation of my passion for the ocean and commitment to protecting it. Thanks to Seaful’s support, I now have access to invaluable opportunities that will help me become a stronger advocate for the sea. I’ll be training in marine mammal rescue, snorkel instruction, and conservation grant writing, while also gaining access to essential equipment to enhance my learning. The ocean has always been a source of joy and inspiration for me, and I’m excited to share that connection with my community and others.
